Ethiopia – Boneya Roba – 250g

From the village of Chelchelie, Yirgacheffe in the Sidamo region of southern Ethiopia we bring you this microlot produced by farmer Boneya Roba.

Yirgacheffe’s hills are highly populated by communities producing ‘garden coffee’, which is planted by farmers close to their houses and is often intercropped with other plants. Only 5% of coffee grown in Ethiopia is grown on plantations. The varietals found in this coffee, Kumie, Diga and Wilsho, are a mix of heirloom varieties cultivated among other species in coffee gardens and coffee forests.

A single-farmer lot from Ethiopia is exceedingly rare since most Ethiopian coffee is brought to market through a cooperative of farmers and full traceability is often difficult. This naturally processed coffee provides a unique opportunity to taste a very specific regional profile.
