DR Congo – Kivu Organic – 250g

This coffee is brought to you from Hutwe Washing Station in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is a honey processed coffee which is a mix of bourbon and the local varietal rumangabo.

Hutwe Washing station, opened by Virunga Coffee Company, was established by Olam Specialty Coffee in 2012.  They have set up 7 washing stations in North and South Kivu to increase coffee quality and farmer premiums for the thousands of smallholder farms in the region. Coffee is a traditional export crop for DRC, however the industry has faced a steady decline due to decades of civil war, poverty and lack of infrastructure as well as challenging security issues from the increasing presence of militias in the region.

While the Country still face challenges, speciality coffee production is bringing new interest and investment to the Kivu region. From the construction and rehabilitation of washing stations to farmer training and the development of nurseries, farmers are being provided with the tools they need to improve both yields and quality.

Once roasted all our beans are sealed in our bags to maintain optimal freshness. If you would like we can open and grind the beans to your preferred setting. ie V60, French Press, Espresso. Just leave a note in the checkout cart and we will take care of the rest.
