The Hacienda Colima farm of Alejo Castro Kahle is located at the edges of the Barva Volcano. The coffee trees benefit from the organic matter & texture of the particularly fertile volcanic soil, which helps produce a well-balanced coffee with quite a chocolatey profile.
Alejo belongs to the fifth generation of the Castro-Kahle Family, which has been growing coffee in Costa Rica for more that 100 years when the Spanish Castro-Jimenez family in Costa Rica & the German Kahle family in Chiapas region of Mexico set up a coffee business. Coffee is not just a specialty of the Castro-Kale clan but a tradition.
Alejo has a passion for exploring different coffee varieties & processes, each year he tries his hand at innovating, combining, concocting & refining his coffees like an alchemist and as a result we have this wonderful natural Red Caturra Microlot.
